Measuring the Economic Benefits of Tourism

The investments from state governments into tourism more than pay for themselves when compared to the travel and tourism revenue they generate.

H&LA Vice President, Laurel Keller, talked to the Cleveland Plain Dealer about the new hotels opening in the Cleveland area in 2016. Ms. Keller gives credit where its due, stating the new convention center and the Ohio’s historic tax credit program have more to do with hotel growth in the city than the one-time Republican National Convention set for July.

In 2015, we completed a feasibility study for the Industrial Development Board of Cleveland/Bradley, Tennessee for a proposed hotel and conference center. As the following article indicates, H&LA’s study has been useful to city officials in determining the disposition of buildings for downtown redevelopment.

This New York Times article highlights the recent improvements and overall revitalization of downtown Cleveland. Not only is the new Public Square being unveiled this week, but several new hotels, including the the 600-room, 32-story Hilton Cleveland Downtown Hotel, have opened in downtown Cleveland this year. Cleveland will be in the national spotlight to the RNC coming to town in July.

Hotel News Now has published a great graphic that breaks down the hotel pipeline by brand. According to HNN, the U.S. hotel industry had 407,413 branded guestrooms under contract at the end of April, representing an 18% jump over 2015 levels.
