H&LA Development Update: Bristol, Virginia

Our recent research for a project in Bristol, Virginia revealed some exciting new hospitality-related developments happening in the area. These developments will have an impact on tourism, employment, and the general economy in Bristol and the surrounding areas in 2025 and beyond.

  • The new permanent Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol opened in Bristol, Virginia, in November of 2024, replacing the temporary Hard Rock casino that opened in 2022. Representing a total investment of about $500 million, this full-fledged casino resort offers slots, table games, an upscale hotel, an indoor concert venue, and multiple restaurants. With roughly 1,400 employees, this property is now one of the leading employers in the Bristol area and will spur visitation and spending in the local market.
  • A multi-million-dollar expansion is planned at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in historic downtown Bristol, Virginia. Supported by a mix of private donations and local, state, and federal funding, this project will expand the museum into an adjoining two-story, 7,800-square-foot structure, creating a new special exhibit area, climate-controlled archival storage, offices, and event space. Once funding is fully secured and construction begins, this project is expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
  • Nicewonder Farm & Vineyards was voted number one on the annual list of “The South’s Best Hotels” by the readers of Southern Living in 2023. The magazine cited the property’s newly opened inn, luxury yurts, restaurant, and scenic grounds, along with the variety of on-site activities. Also in 2023, the property was listed among the “10 Best New Resorts in the U.S.” by Travel + Leisure. In addition to benefiting the subject property, these high-profile recognitions have helped to raise awareness of Bristol as a leisure destination both regionally and nationally.
  • In October 2024, Electro-Mechanical Corporation announced plans for a $16 million expansion of its existing manufacturing facilities in Washington County, Virginia, just outside of Bristol. Anticipated to create more than 109 new jobs, this major investment signals a long-term commitment to the Southwest Virginia region.
  • A new leisure attraction called Traveling Bear Indoor Mini Golf opened in Bristol, Virginia, in the summer of 2023. Located near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue, this facility now offers 18 holes of indoor miniature golf, with daily admissions, monthly memberships, and special rates for birthday parties and other special events.
