Our recent research for a project in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin revealed some exciting new hospitality-related developments happening in the area. These developments will have an impact on tourism, employment, and the general economy in Wisconsin Dells and the surrounding areas in 2025 and beyond.
- In May 2024, the largest water slide in the United States – The Rise of Icarus – opened at the Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells. This 145-foot-tall attraction now features five separate body slides. Mt. Olympus also opened a new outdoor children’s water play area in mid-2024, with 10 slides, a wading pool, and other features.
- In May 2024, the Amtrak passenger rail system began operating a new route called the Borealis, which runs daily between Minneapolis and Chicago. This new line now offers eight stops in Wisconsin – including Milwaukee and Wisconsin Dells – with mid-day departure times and cheaper tickets than the Empire Builder line, which runs between Chicago and Washington state and also stops daily in Wisconsin Dells. With this addition, visitors now have another fast, affordable option when traveling to Wisconsin Dells.
- A new $6.5 million Just-A-Game Fieldhouse facility recently opened in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, about 15 miles west of Wisconsin Dells. This 45,000-square-foot domed venue has five basketball courts, nine volleyball courts, 16 pickleball courts, and a walking track. This is the second Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in the region, joining the existing facility in Wisconsin Dells, and it will strengthen the area’s competitive position when it comes to attracting youth sports tournaments.
- Buc-ee’s, known for operating some of the world’s largest gas stations and convenience stores, has announced plans to open a new location in DeForest, Wisconsin, north of Madison. Located near three major highways and about 40 miles from Wisconsin Dells, this will be the state’s first Buc-ee’s, and it is expected to be a major regional draw for travelers.
