Reflections on NASC Symposium

As a consultant in the sport feasibility industry, I attended the 22nd annual National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Symposium recently held in Oklahoma City, OK. The symposium brought together events rights holders and sport governing bodies with sports commissions and conventions and visitors bureaus. The state of the travel sports industry is trending positive although there are challenges. Of note is the increased reliance on rebates and commissions for tournament lodging accommodations. “Stay to Play” is becoming more commonplace. The main take-away is that the relationship between hoteliers and event rights holders needs to be more athletic/attendee-focused.
