Shifting Tide: Hoteliers Embrace Sports Groups

A perception shift has occurred in recent years when it comes to the way the hotel industry views the sports market. 

According to Eric Hansen, AIA, ISHC, director of development services with Hotel & Leisure Advisors, an attitude that was once passive in terms of outreach to the amateur sports industry has turned aggressive as hotels seek to gain market share in this thriving industry. 

“This shift is seen in the increase in the number of hotels hiring dedicated sports group sales professionals to work with local sports commissions and conventions and visitors bureaus (CVB),” he said.  “Those hoteliers that have embraced the sports group consumer have enjoyed built-in demand as growth in the sports travel market trends positively.”
